On 17th November we visited, in perfect weather, St John’s Finchingfield and St Mary’s Great Bardfield, both have rare carved rood screens, one wooden and one stone.
Our visit was enhanced greatly by our informative guide Rev Alex Shannon who oversees six parishes. He took us round Finchingfield church, performed an impromptu organ recital, gave us hints of what to look for at Great Bardfield and took our group photograph. With coffee and cakes at a Finchingfield tea shop, this was a lovely way to spend a Monday morning!
