Thames sailing barges, two workhouses, a Victorian courthouse, a church used as a navigation aid and a garden left to the town by two sisters. This is a summary of some of the sights included in an historical walk of just under three miles around the backstreets and alleys of Maldon. No muddy fields or waterproof boots for us this month!
We set off from the Tesco Maldon car park along the river on a circular walk. Past the Fullbridge and on into the town passing the Salt Works and the famous Thames barges. We saw so many interesting buildings on our journey, some that many of us didn’t know existed.
On our return we drove to the Queen Victoria pub on Spital Rd, for lunch and the food was excellent. Our thanks to Philippa Moody for organising such an interesting and informative walk.
