Heybridge Basin - November 2025

Our November Birdwatching Group took place at Heybridge Basin, where we were delighted to welcome 2 new participants, Christine and Sandy.

The weather was fine and dry, with some reasonably warm spells when the sun was out.

Quite a large number of birds were seen, although species identification proved to be quite a challenge with the tide falling and wading birds feeding at the water's edge some distance away.
However, many thanks go to Fred in particular, for his help in identifying a number of bird species we observed.

The following is a list of bird species we were able to visually identify:

Brent Goose
Canada Goose
Lapwing
Knot
Dunlin
Oystercatcher
Curlew
Redshank
Avocet
Godwit (Black Tailed?)
Cormorant
Grey Heron
Little Egret
Black Headed Gull

Lesser Black Backed Gull
Wigeon
Teal
Pochard
Shelduck
Mallard
Great Crested Grebe
Mute Swan
Long Tailed Tit
Greenfinch
Starling
Magpie
House Sparrow
Pigeon

The following is a short list of other species we were able to hear, but didn't actually see:

Black-Breasted Plover (possibly winter visiting Grey?)
Robin
Pied Wagtail
Skylark
Great Tit
Wren
Cettis Warbler

A small selection of photos are shown below. (Thanks to John.)
