For our August meeting we visited Crouch Ridge Vineyard, a 10 acre reserve in Althorne.. The vineyard is located on gentle south facing slopes overlooking the picturesque river Crouch. The long hours of sunshine and relatively low rainfall make it an ideal location
On our arrival we had a tour of the vineyard with a talk about it’s history and the vines grown to produce the cool climate grape varieties
Afterwards we enjoyed an alfresco wine tasting overlooking the vineyard, accompanied by a variety of cheeses, cold meats, fish and seafood.
We started with a refreshing Blanc de Blanc sparkling wine, “summer in a glass”
This was followed by a Chardonnay, with hints of apple, citrus and melon. Our third wine was a Pinot Rose a pale salmon pink with flavours of summer berries. Lastly we tasted a Pinot Noir reserve a light bodied red with hints of Black cherries and raspberries.
A very pleasant afternoon was enjoyed by all.
