Our October Birdwatching Group meeting took place at EWT Abbewrton Reservoir when a small group of us visited two of the Bird Hides.
The weather was dry, but slightly chilly, and a smaller number of birds made an appearance on this occasion.
Highlights included a feeding Kestrel, perched on a fence post not far from the hide we were in, a significant number of Stonechat sightings and plenty of Chetti’s Warblers heard (but not seen).
In general, many of the birds were at quite a distance from the hides and water levels were extremely low.
This resulted in our list of identified species being somewhat shorter than on previous visits, although over 20 species were recorded on this occasion, thanks to Sue.
