Witham and District (Essex)

Langford Walk – August 2026

Our August walk started in Langford, taking us across the fields from the golf course to the Museum of Power. Walking along the road for a short while we headed onto the disused railway line. This was the Maldon to Witham line which closed in the 1960s but We were able to access the former Langford Ulting platform which has been lovingly restored.
Continuing on through country tracks we returned along the river Chelmer to Beeleigh falls where the river meets Blackwater Navigation and on to Beeleigh Abbey and farm. Lots of Jacob sheep here. Paths were very firm and good due to the dry weather, just one area of water run-off, helpfully planked for access.
On our return we drove to the nearby Jolly Sailor in Heybridge Basin for an excellent lunch and catch up.
Our thanks to Heather and Tracy for organising such a lovely walk.
