Our September walk was a circular walk in Mundon led by Sue & Pete.
We met at the White Horse in the village and set off on a bright morning. Walking along good footpaths and farmland tracks we reached the 14th Century grade I listed St Mary's Church. Although redundant it has been carefully conserved and cared for by the Friends of Friendless Churches.
We were able to go inside and view this wonderful medieval church with many historic features.
Afterwards we walked behind the churchyard to view the "Petrified Oaks" These oaks have stood for 800 to 900 years but probably due to salt water flooding from the Blackwater have died but to some extent preserved , a stark and eerie sight.
After our visit we continued on past Mundon Hall Farm, along field edges and quiet country roads back to the White Hart. As the pub was closed, we drove the short distance to Morrisons for lunch and get together. A lovely walk full of history.
